Cayuga Lake 8/25 AM
Guided Jim, his son Bob, and Bob’s friend Matt for a 1/2-day trip today starting at around 7:45 am. I picked the guys up at their rental. Fishing started off good in our first area with a couple quick fish, but I wasn’t seeing much going on. Fish continue to be deep – running from 85′ to 130′ depending on where you’re fishing and what the water temps are. We made a run and it really paid off. The guys spent the morning enjoying some excellent action on lake trout running 19″ to 30″+. No other species today. We had a few doubles hooked – it was what I like to see in August and September on Cayuga Lake – hot fishing!
I was very impressed by the guys’ zest for angling – especially Bob. He’s a heck of an angler and does some serious carp fishing along with gar, bowfin, trout, walleye, tiger musky and more. He fishes gear and fly-gear. I think he needs to wipe off the slime off of his body before he goes to work each morning! Maybe he has gills too…I don’t know!
We did well with black and white plastics today. The guys brought some Berkley Gulp Saltwater swim baits along and they worked very well for us too.
