Cayuga Lake out of Long Point 11/5 AM

Reports

Guided a half day with Andy starting at around 8:15 am.  Laker jigging was tough today. In one area we had laker-friendly temperatures down 165 feet!  I have never seen the thermocline (what remains of it) that deep on Cayuga Lake, but that’s what we had.  We tried a bunch of different areas.  Andy managed to land just one laker today – a solid fish around 24″ to 25″.  He only had a few other hits.  Surface temps are at 53.  A lot of loons can be seen now throughout Cayuga Lake.  It is the quietest time of the year with virtually no boat traffic.

My fishing classes at Cornell are done with for this semester.  I had my classes fish at Taughannock State Park during the past two weeks.  Students managed to hook a nice fresh salmon and land one lake trout from shore over the past two days. Last week we had a silvery salmon around 18″ landed and some hits and follows from solid lakers.  Many trout are roaming the shallows and drop-offs on Cayuga Lake.
