Cayuga Lake out of Long Point 4/9

Reports

Guided Rich and his son Ryan for a 1/2 day trip starting just after 9 am.  The fishing was what I’ve come to expect in April on Cayuga Lake – good to excellent action throughout the day on solid lake trout running 23″ to 29″.  The guys had a great double-digit day.  Eight lakers were kept and some of those fish had freshly digested alewives in them.  No sign of gobies in the deep caught lakers from today.  Some anglers are catching shallower fish that are gorging on gobies, but we didn’t work any shallow areas today.  We haven’t encountered the usual numbers of 29″+ fish this year thus far.  Sometimes they would make up the majority of fish caught on a given spring day, but so far it’s mostly been 26″ers.  Many of the fish caught today had old healed lamprey wounds.  I did not see any signs of fresh wounding.  Surface temp was 39 today.  That water is cold!!!   The lake level is good and we didn’t get too much rain yesterday, although we did get enough to temporarily blow out some of the tribs.

Rich hooked up on a picture perfect day!

I still have a few openings in April.  My calendar is fairly full for the first half of May.  Check my last post in the reports for up to the day availability!
