Cayuga Lake out of Long Point 5/13
Guided Duane and his son Chris for a full day today. Cayuga’s level is still high and water temps are around 48 to 51 degrees on top. Lake trout jigging was a bit slow to start and then really picked up. The guys landed 5 solid fish with a couple 28 inchers. Casting stickbaits shallow resulted in a 27″ hard fighting beauty for Duane.
We made a run south and did some casting for salmon. Chris had a few follows and hooked what appeared to be a solid fish – it may have even been a smallmouth. One dink was landed. As I mentioned before, salmon really seem to be scattering. Baitfish are also gradually moving in shallower.
Stable weather should really get the laker bite up to par. One large fish was wild. No lamprey activity on any of the lakers – the parasites are probably finding enough fish further south to keep a lot of them down there.
