Cayuga Lake out of Long Point 6/25 AM
Guided the Mariano clan for a 1/2 day trip starting just after 7:45 am. I picked them up at their B & B down-lake. We had a very good bite to start today with some nice fish. Sal led things off with the hot hand and then Dave got a nice fish. Steve wasn’t having much luck until he switched his jig out to one that he’d brought along. Before long, he started catching some nice fish and everyone else changed to his lure. Steve hooked a big fish and after a good battle, I slipped the net under a 32″ wild beauty. The guys kept a lot of fish to feed their crew this week, so we kept it. I weighed the lunker in at 9lbs 15 oz. Keep in mind, out Seneca Lake fish from Saturday was 31″ long and weighed 12lbs 5 oz, so that’s quite a difference in “plumpness.” It will be very interesting to see how the fishing materializes on Seneca Lake over the next few years. We may see some 12lb to 15lb landlocked salmon! Who knows?
Cayuga Lake looked great today. Yesterday’s big blow cleared out what little algae there was and even the marina at Long Point cleared up. I could see bottom there for the first time in a good 10 days. Surface temps were also cool at around 66 degrees today. I’m on Cayuga Lake a bit this week, so we’ll see what transpires.
