Cayuga Lake out of Long Point 6/7 AM

Reports

Guided a half day starting at 7:30 am with Don.  He has a place on the north end of Cayuga Lake and wanted to learn the jigging.  Fishing was top-notch today with nine mostly big lakers landed including a few 29 inch fish, a 30″ and a 31″.  Three wild lakers were in the mix today.  Fish ran from 45′ to 85′ for us, though lakers are certainly shallower and deeper.  We fished areas I hadn’t worked since my days of living in Trumansburg and launching out of Dean’s Cove.

A lot of boats went out of Long Point today – I saw around 25 to 30 rigs in the parking lot before we launched.  Great fishing on Cayuga combined with floodwaters on Lake Ontario and tougher action on Seneca and Owasco Lake are likely the reasons. That’s as many rigs as I’ve seen there on a non-tournament/non-derby day.

The fishing was great and the weather was spectacular!  Syracuse News reports that we haven’t had three rain/snow free days in a row since September 28th of 2018.  That’s brutal!
