Cayuga Lake out of Long Point 7/21

Reports

Guided Anthony and his friends Dominic and Tom for a full day today. It was one of the first days that really felt like July out there. Despite forecasts for N and WNW winds 7 to 14 mph, the winds stayed down around 3 to 5 mph out of the west. It was hot. We fished a lot of areas and found the bite to be tough to start. Anthony had been out with me for two days per year over the past two years and fished with confidence. He landed two fish in fairly short order. The other guys missed some hits/fish. We worked various areas north and south of Long Point and on both shores. By 12:30 pm the fishing showed some signs of life with Anthony nabbing two more nice lakers to 29″. Dom nabbed a 25″er and Tom landed a 22″ salmon. All fish were released today.

Swimming has been curtailed at Long Point until this algae bloom is over with. All the rain run-off along with hot temps has likely triggered the bloom. Hopefully it won’t last long but with conditions we’ve had thus far this year, who knows? Not the hot fishing we’ve experienced in past years in July on Cayuga Lake but still acceptable.
