Cayuga Lake out of Long Point State Park 7/9 AM

Reports

7/9 AM:  Guided Tom and his son in-law Andrew for a 1/2 day starting just after 6:30 am.  Tom’s brother Mark was out with me on June 16th and we had an excellent day on the water.  The guys first joined me with their father for a Seneca Lake jigging trip in August of 2010.  Back then Seneca and Cayuga were both vying for top lake trout lake in the Finger Lakes.  Seneca will get back to its former glory eventually, but for now Cayuga is tops and it isn’t even close.

As has been the case lately, I’ve had to do a bit of running in order to find fish.  We started things with a bang with Andrew nabbing a 31″ wild laker on his first drop of the jig and then a 28″er on his second!   We had four fish in short order but then the action slowed.  We hit another 4 to 5 areas with hits in each place but it wasn’t until the last hour of the trip that the fish started hitting good and another 4 solids were landed.  So all in all a very good morning of fishing, but action was sporadic.  Nearly all of the rain missed my location yesterday.  Cayuga Lake still looks great with clear water and not a lot of debris floating around.  Fish ranged from 50′ to 90′ of water today for us
