Cayuga Lake out of Myers 12/1

Reports

Got out with my buddy Terry for a day of gear-fishing. I wanted to check on a bunch of different areas – basically just do some scouting. I did not fish any of the same areas I had luck in a few days ago.

Short but heavy rains last night wound up pushing some muddy, leaf-filled water into the lake via the tribs. Terry picked up a 20″ laker in shallow near Taughannock. We did see what were likely some smaller salmon feeding occasionally on the surface.

A run downlake resulted in a few nice follows/hits from lakers, smallmouth bass and some other sort of non-laker salmonid – likely a rainbow. I dropped a nice pickerel on a pike setup. Terry nabbed a chunky 18″ smallmouth on a tube. There were decent numbers of fish around but overall the fishing (i.e. catching) was slow – likely due in part to the winds, at times lack thereof and tough boat control when they were blowing. The inshore mix of fish is nice and should make for some good mixed bag angling throughout December. Water temps on top were 47. We kept Terry’s laker and it had a few small gobies in its stomach.
