Cayuga Lake out of Myers 8/27
Met my buddy Todd at Myers at around 9 am. Today was a “catch ’em and eat ’em” mission for lakers. We tried a few areas for browns too. Conditions were very tough with high south winds gusting into the upper teens/low 20s and a lot of cloud cover. We raised a couple big browns but they did not grab our offerings. Laker fishing was tough – partially due to the heavy cloud cover but moreso due to the boat control. If you don’t have good boat control, you will often struggle chasing lake trout.
I did the best I could and eventually we picked up a couple fish. As the day went on, the winds diminished a bit and the bite picked up. We wound up doing well and landing 8 fish on the day up to around 28″. Most were in the mid-20s as is usually the case on Cayuga. Surface temps have dropped fairly rapidly and are currently around 69 to 71 degrees. Plenty of bait is around. We took our fish fairly deep today – around 85′ to 95′ was best, with many being over 90′ deep.
