Cayuga Lake out of Myers Park 5/19

Reports

Guided Mark I. for a full day of fly-fishing. Winds were weird with dead calm conditions to start at 9 am, then a hard northerly. The forecast morning cloud cover never materialized.

Fishing was good to start with Mark nabbing a big chunky smallmouth (18″+) in short order. Then he caught a nice 23″ laker. A brown around 17″ and fat came a bit later as did a decent landlock. Fishing got tougher for us as the wind kept getting stronger. Eventually the breakers forced us to try some more sheltered areas. We wound up further south and Mark picked up a solid salmon around 21″. That was pretty much it for the day – he had some follows and hits but the action was pretty sporadic. Hard rain pushed more muddy water into the lake, but it wasn’t too bad. Water level is still high. Surface temps range from 51 to 53, though I expect colder water up north in areas like Long Point.
