Cayuga Lake out of Myers Park 6/17 AM
Guided Alex, Natalie and their friend Lad today starting just after 7:15 am. They were camping at Taughannock, so I picked them up over at the dock. Water clarity is still decent on Cayuga Lake with around 4′ of visibility. The bite was very good to start – much better than yesterday. In short order around a half-dozen nice fish were landed. We wound up having a decent double-digit day with the best fish being Alex’s 31″er. There are a lot of nice lake trout swimming around Cayuga Lake this year. Baitfish were everywhere. Best color for us was white/chartreuse tail. We also had hits on plain white and black as well. A few rainbows or salmon chased up the jigs, but none were hooked. Depths ranged from 40′ to 85′ today. The thermocline is intact in most areas and some waterfleas are around. I’m on other water bodies over the next couple of days. I will keep the readers of this website updated on the conditions of Cayuga Lake. Surface temps were around 68 degrees today. Despite the heat in the upper-80s, it felt perfect out on the lake with the cool breeze. We encountered very little boat traffic today. I cleaned 9 fish and they were all stuffed with fresh alewives.
