Cayuga Lake out of Myers Park 9/1 AM
Guided Amit and his twin 9-year-old daughters, Hannah and Madelyn for a 1/2-day trip starting at around 7:45 am. The gals had never fished before and Amit has fished on occasion. We worked a lot of lake today but just could not get a fish into the boat. You might think that 9-year-old girls would have a tough time with the technique and using bait-casting outfits, but they did great. They were fantastic listeners and had far less issues than many people I’ve guided that were 4 to 6 times as old! We had 4 hookups today, but just could not keep a fish on for more than a handful of seconds. Amit needed to be off the water just after noon; I wish I could have had them out longer, because fish appeared to be getting more active as the day went on for us. A few of our hookups came in the last hour of the trip. I felt that we covered water effectively and were on fish most of the time. Hard to say what the issue was, but again, I was very impressed with the gals and felt they could’ve easily fished all day. They were really into it! Fish and lake-trout friendly temperatures continue to be deep – we fished from around 90′ out to 135′ or so today. No color really stood out – we had hits on white, chartreuse and black today. We also had some chases from what were likely rainbows. Tons of bait was around as well. I think this was my first skunking of the year on Cayuga for lake trout – hopefully it will be the last. We did have two brutal trips on Seneca as well. Owasco has been pretty good to us so far this year. Temps will be dropping early this week. Leaves are starting to change fast and some have already fallen. We had a crazy, hot summer and now September is coming in like a lion! Stay tuned!
