Cayuga Lake out of Myers Park 9/27
Had a very solid full-day on the water today with Steve and Dave, who’ve both joined me over the past couple of years. The weather was perfect. We had some haze, but it wasn’t too hot and just enough of a breeze to move us along on our drifts. Fishing was very good with a double-digit laker day and 3 good hook-ups on rainbows (at least) with two being very nice fish. Steve landed a 20″ and a 24″. He lost one around 24″ to 25″ after a wild battle including jumps and some searing runs – it did everything you’d hope and expect from a “steelhead!” (Most Finger Lakes strain rainbows are thought to have originated from steelhead stocks!)
The fishing was excellent and the catching was also good. We had hookups and hits virtually everywhere we tried. We had one giant lamprey come up on a laker. Other fish have showed some healed up as well as recent wounds. Surface temps today ranged from 68 to 70. We had our best fishing from 85′ out to 140′. Lots of colors worked and Dave, who does a lot of plastic molding and lure making, had action on his own custom colors as well. The lake is very clear but there are some remnants of algae around and some particulates, although the algae issue is clearing winding down now.
Monday remains open. After that, the 5th through October 10th is also open!
