Owasco Lake 10/31 AM
Guided Dan and his brother Bill for pike. We also tried for lake trout for around 45 minutes to an hour. It was COLD this AM. I had frost on my truck windshield when I started my vehicle. The guys ran into a snow squall on the drive up from Binghamton! Conditions weren’t great to start but improved as the day went on. Dan had never caught a northern but that was remedied in about 20 minutes with a nice 26″ fish that gobbled a spoon. After that we didn’t have much action despite trying a bunch of places. Dan picked up another fish on an X-Rap maybe 2+1/2 hours later – a nice northern around 25″. Some perch were also around. Jigging yielded one nice laker for Dan as well. Bill had all the action on our first Tiger Musky trip a couple years back, so sometimes that’s the way things go. Water temps were around 53 degrees on top.
I expect pike fishing to really pick up here this month. I think we should be able to score on some decent numbers of fish and some into the mid to upper-30s (inch) range. We’ll see. Smallmouth bass action should also be very good here now. It was a very hot summer and it has taken time for things to settle into a mid-late fall pattern. It may look like late fall outside, but it’s fishing more like early fall! I haven’t seen this before.
