Owasco Lake 7/25 AM

Reports

Guided Bill and Rick for a 1/2-day trip getting underway just after 6:45 am.  Rick came up for a reunion and it was a last minute booking.  Action started pretty hot and heavy – Rick hooked and lost a fish on his first drop of the jig.  It didn’t take much more than 5 minutes before he got the first trout in the boat.  Another one followed shortly thereafter for him again and then Bill picked up a fish.  A lot of fish seemed active around us. After that, the clouds rolled in heavily and our bite really slowed down.  The wind also kicked up out of the west/northwest.

Our bite overall slowed down a lot despite a good number of fish chasing jigs.  The sun would peak out periodically.  Bill picked up another good fish later in our trip and that was it.

I had a report from Cayuga Lake yesterday and the wind was blowing strongly and the bite was tough in the AM, although it picked up more later.  Both lake are somewhat green in color.  In parts of Owasco Lake, we only had about 2′ of water clarity.  In most parts of Owasco Lake, the water was clearer – probably double that, so I think the bloom(s) over there are fairly localized.  The water coming out of the inlet is crystal-clear.  We had a lot of heavy rain yesterday but it was very localized.  I don’t think it affected the lakes much.
