Seneca Lake 10/29 AM + Lake Ontario Oswego 10/30 PM
10/29 Seneca Lake out of Watkins Glen: Guided the Hermans for a half day trip targeting northern pike. It was the first time I’d been out of Watkins Glen since last April I believe. Milfoil is still up pretty good in a lot of areas. Leaves were also a factor today. Eleonore (who is closing in on 80 years old) lost a decent northern in one area we fished. A few casts later she managed to land a solid 31″ fish with a spoon. John had a few hits in another area then landed a hard fighting 32″/33″ pike on a swimbait. Winds came up pretty good by the end of our trip. John spotted a bald eagle directly overhead us which was pretty cool. Fall foliage is mostly post-peak now. Water temps were in the mid-50s. Water level was very good.
Lake Ontario out of Oswego Harbor 10/30 PM: Got out here on my own from around 12:15 pm until maybe 6 pm. Wright’s Landing is closed for the season but launching is still possible. One dock is in. I checked on a few different things today and did not have any luck apart from a few gobies. I worked areas deep and shallow looking for trout/salmon (I did have a hit or two from what was likely a small salmon/trout) and had some follows as well, but nothing solid. Casting for bass did not produce for me either. I did not make any real runs today. I worked out to 300′ FOW looking at my screen for trout/salmon/bait. There wasn’t much out there. Had some bait on bottom in around 300′. Had some laker marks shallower but no takers. Saw one old King jump right in by the boat launch at Wright’s! It wasn’t like the old days where you’d see a lot of salmon commotion.
Open dates remaining in November: the 10th – 13th and 16th – 30th. December is wide-open except for the 10th.
