Seneca Lake 7/24 AM

Reports

Yesterday Seneca “giveth” and today it “take-eth.”  Had both Chris and Billy from yesterday along with Phil, the man who booked the dates.  Phil wasn’t able to join us yesterday as planned, but was with us today.  We met just after 7 am and the lake had a good southerly chop and we had overcast skies.  I figured we’d have our work cut-out for us, but I also thought sooner or later that the lake would calm down a bit (as forecasted) and the sun would shine (also as forecasted.)   We had some intermittent sun, but for the most part it stayed both cloudy and windy.  All the guys had light hits or bumps in the first area we fished but no good hookups.  Phil had 3 or 4 fish on, but for very little and they didn’t seem big.  We worked a lot of areas thoroughly and even gave the rough east side of the lake a good shot, but could not buy a solid hookup.  I had plenty of lakers on the screen as well as plenty of bait schools.  We had lakers from 75′ out to 130′.  Unfortunately they didn’t cooperate at all for us today.

Overall, the mix of young and old fish on this lake keeps getting better.  A lot of younger lakers are around and will make a dent in this lake’s massive baitfish population.  That being said, we did much better here last year.  We had much more consistency.  This year has been a see-saw ride on Seneca.  I haven’t seen any real banner days;  we’ve had a couple big zeros and a few double-digit days but nothing exceptional so far.  I have at least one more lake trout trip booked out here in August as of this writing.  We’ll see how things shake out.
