Skaneateles Lake 11/21 midday

Reports

Guided a half day on Skaneateles Lake getting underway at 10:30 am.   The trip was with Derrick and his son Aaron, who’s around 10 or 11 years old.  The lake is still very high – pretty much where it was a month ago.  The water looks great, it is nice and clear with little debris apart from the usual leaves this time of year.  Water temperature is 49 degrees.

The bite for us was slower than previous trips but not too bad.  The guys landed a half dozen smallmouths all in the 14″ to 15 1/2″ range.  Aaron caught the two biggest.  It was tough going working the tube jigs with the cloud cover, wind, leaves, varying depth changes and drifting boat.  Aaron hung in there good and gave it a great go.   We had a couple bass come on deep running jerkbaits.  When Aaron took momentary breaks for snacks or to warm up, I took some casts to help the guys get some fish to take home.  We wound up with a few big perch for dinner.   No sign of any trout or salmon which was odd today.  No walleyes either.  One other boat was out for a little while targeting perch.
