Skaneateles Lake 11/6 midday

Reports

Guided Larry and his wife Jenn for a 1/2-day trip starting around 10:45 am.   Weather forecasts were all over the place this morning, from showers with strong winds to clearer conditions with light winds. We had some south winds when we launched but in short order zero wind which almost never helps the bite on this lake.  Then I had westerlies reverberating off of the shoreline hills/cliffs that made for tough boat control.  As the day went on, a front went through and the winds came up out of the west then north and we got into a better bite.  Larry got into a good groove early in the trip with a tube jig working 10′ to 23′ of water.  During the latter part of the trip, he good into some good deep jerkbait action.  He caught some nice smallmouths running larger overall than the fish I caught here last week.  Jenn doesn’t fish much, but I got her going on tubes and jerkbaits.  Larry worked a bladebait for a little while without luck.  Jenn had some hits and managed to land her first smallmouth bass – one around 15″ if I remember correctly on a tube jig.  Larry lost a very solid bass and also nabbed a nice 13″ yellow perch.

Water remains around 6 to 10 degrees warmer than usual for this time of year.  A few trout are being taken by various angling methods.  One guy I talked to blanked on walleyes today but nabbed a couple 17″ers last week slow trolling nightcrawlers on worm harnesses.   Water level remains low.  Boat traffic and fishing pressure was very light today.
