Skaneateles Lake 11/6 PM
One of my favorite places to fish in early November is Skaneateles Lake. I enjoy fly-fishing it and I also like casting my home-tied hair jigs here. You never know what you’ll catch on the jigs – could be a rainbow trout, landlocked salmon, smallmouth bass, jumbo perch, lake trout, rockbass or even a walleye (these days.) I fished from just after noon until around 4 pm. I caught a perch on my first cast and that’s what I stayed with. Conditions weren’t great for fly-fishing. I wound up with a really nice haul of perch. I also landed a few bonus smallmouths, two of which went 18.5″ each – probably 3.75lbs or so knowing this lake. Docks are still in, which was a pleasant surprise. Boat traffic was very light. Surface temp is 51 degrees.
With the spate of winter like temperatures coming in, I postponed a few trips scheduled for late this week and weekend. I also had a cancellation. Weather looks to be warming up a bit during the third week of November. That week, along with the last week in November and all of December (and onwards into 2020) remain open for trips.
