Skaneateles Lake 6/29 + Cayuga Lake 6/30 AM
6/29: Got out on Skaneateles Lake for the first time in quite a while. I fished with my buddy Craig, whom I hadn’t seen in years. We fished out of his Dad’s Skeeter Bass Boat. Craig used to guide Oneida Lake and some of the other waterways around the area and I would use him on occasion to help me out with larger parties and overflow bookings. We had some decent action on smallmouth bass; we also landed tons of rockbass and also caught some really nice perch. I managed to dropshot a bonus lake trout that was in shallow (30′) water. Clearly the lake temps are still cold. It was a lot of fun and we had fish hit topwater, sub-walk Rapalas, jerkbaits, dropshot, flukes and tubes.
6/30 AM: Launched out of Dean’s Cove and met Jim at the ramp. He has a long history on Cayuga Lake dating back to the late 1950s and 1960s. He has a place on the lake and will be getting back into fishing Cayuga Lake. He had some great action jigging with nearly a hit every drop at times. He landed around 8 fish and dropped quite a few. The weather was quite threatening at times but stayed nice. Most fish came from 65′ on out. Fun day.
