Reports

Hope everyone is having a good off-season!  After a very busy season, I’ve been enjoying my time off. I went through and updated my lakes and species pages to include the most recent information gleaned from the past year.  I also plan on adding some newer photos in the species sections, so stay tuned.  I like working on the website when there isn’t much else to do, e.g., snow days are perfect for that.

Not much new to report here fishing-wise.  Weather permitting, there has been some successful shorefishing going on in Cayuga Lake.   I would expect Seneca Lake to be producing some fish as well.  Ice fishing is in full swing throughout the state.

I swung by Taughannock Park a few days ago to scout out the ramp.  I talked to a park manager and he told me that the timer for the bubbler had not been working properly, so the marina has had more icing than usual.  I always thought the bubbler was there primarily for anglers to access the lake for winter fishing – and although that’s what it’s mainly used for, I was informed that the marina must be kept open in case of emergency.  The only available lake access in the winter (when ice buildup is occurring) is at the park, so keeping it clear is mandatory.  They tried using a backhoe to break up the launch ice, but they had a malfunction with the backhoe.  The launch should be clear over the next day or two for use.

February is a short month and March will be upon us shortly!  Now’s a great time to reserve a fishing date.  My schedule remains wide-open but for some reason the first week in May is pretty much already just about booked up. Once we get a few nicer days without too much wind I intend to get my boat out, but at the rate we’re going this winter it may be a few weeks yet.

Needless to say, you aren’t going to be launching a boat with the ramp like this!
