Cayuga Lake 7/30 AM
The bite on Cayuga Lake continues to be good to very good and it certainly feels like mid-August out on the lake. Today I had Carl out, who joined me in the early spring for a salmon trip on Seneca Lake. He managed a nice rainbow back then on bottom in around 40'+ of water, which was eye-opening, but not surprising given the round goby population there. We had very good fishing today throughout the entire morning. Four fish were landed, but Carl had a LOT of hookups! We played around with different reels today - i.e., left hand vs. right hand cranks and different techniques as well. We weren't able to find anything really super comfortable for him, but we will. I use baitcasting outfits for this kind of fishing, but spinning may be more natural and comfortable for some anglers. Some fish hit short as is often the case, but other hits were good grabs that just didn't hook up. No rainbows again today, although they certainly were chasing. Boat traffic remains light. Water visibility ranged from 4' to 6'+ throughout the areas we fished, which were on both sides of the lake. Fun day and the fish continue to fight with a lot of vigor! No pics today.
