I was back on Cayuga Lake after a nice weekend off. When I arrived back at the Myers Park boat dock last Monday, I put my throttle into reverse as we approached the dock. I didn't feel any tension! My throttle cable had snapped! Fortunately it went after the trip and not 12 miles up the lake! The Mercury 2018 motor has 8 years of heavy professional use on it and had approximately 840 hours on it. I had the same thing happen with my Yamaha 4-stroke in the mid-2000s, probably after 12 or 13 years and maybe 1200 hours. Bottom line is that if you're an avid angler, it'd be worth having the cables replaced after around 7 years and 700 hours or so.
Today I guided a half-day trip with Rick and Mike, who were out with me a couple of months ago out of Long Point. In our first area, Rick landed a nice laker on his first drop of the jig. No action after that, so we made a move. I was hoping to get the guys into some browns today. No luck there for sure, although we may have had some hits from some. But I never did positively identify one. Overall, the fish were somewhat neutral. Rick had the hot hand and dropped a good hookup and then landed some nice fish up to over 30". Mike had some hits and managed a nice fish. Lakers were chasing our jigs and hitting just below the boat today due to cold water being up high. It wound up being a fair to good day. The bite never really got going well for us and just about every time I considered a move, one of the guys would get a hit or hook up. The landed fish were solid - we had Rick's 30.5", a 28" and at least one 27"er in the mix.
