Guided Bob, his brother Mark and brother in-law Larry for a 1/2-day trip starting just after 7 am. Bob was out with me a long time ago on Seneca Lake. It's good to see people that I haven't had out fishing in over a decade! I expected good fishing today but action started out slow. The guys had hits, but no hookups early on. Larry had a hit on his first drop of a jig. Mark started us off with a 23" laker.
We tried various areas, but it wasn't until we made a run across lake that we got into a couple more fish. Bob had the hot hand and it felt good to get enough fish for the guys' dinner (their spouses were also vacationing with them.) We wound up back where we started and Mark picked up another laker. It wasn't looking good for Larry, but he wasn't to be denied! He nabbed a 28.5"er right just as I was putting gear away.
The fishing picked up when the winds switched from south to west. We were winding up the trip at that point. Today showed why I don't typically start super-early - fishing can sometimes be slow in the morning and then pick up as conditions change. A 6:30 am to 7:30 am start is often sufficient. Everything changes from day to day. In July, an early start is usually best. Either way, we wound up having a very satisfying day with some action from start to finish. The guys did have a couple of follows from nice rainbows today, but no hookups on those.
