Cayuga Lake out of Myers Park 10/3
Guided a full-day trip with Russ and his wife Donna. They reside in south Jersey where they ran a popular campground for a long time. They were out with me once before, way back late in 2008 for a northern pike trip out of Sampson State Park. We had sleet and snow then, combined with some harsh winds. Pike fishing was very good, but we decided to fish a half-day instead of our scheduled full one.
The lake temp on top is around 67. We seem to be losing a degree every two days. At this rate, I expect decent pike fishing in about 2 weeks to be safe. We shall see! Colors are getting nice outside although they still have a ways to go. There was a lot of fog in some areas this morning, but it was clear on the lake. We did have to wait a couple hours before it warmed up a bit and the sun poked out. Fish seem to be everywhere from Sheldrake south on both sides of the lake. There’s no shortage of fish, but bite windows are short. We’ll see what tomorrow brings. We did have a mild front come in yesterday, which appears to have put off the fish a bit. The AM was all Russ and then the PM was Donna. PM fishing was better today. We wound up with around 8 fish if I remember right. A lot of good hits were missed and dropped. Fish ran to 29″. No ripe spawners quite yet. Best depths were from 95′ out to 140′ for us today. Limetreuse was our best color. Some fish came on others as well. We had a few hits near the surface from what were likely small rainbows or salmon. Sunday 10/13 just opened up for a full or half day. This weekend also remains open and the weather looks decent. The cold stuff starts next week!
Donna on and it's a nice fish!
