Guided Bob, his neighbor Scott and Scott's son Logan for a 1/2-day trip getting underway at 7:30 am. Bob first came out with me in my third year of guiding - in 2007. Yesterday's weather featured intense low pressure, storms and tornado warnings in the area. We had our work cut out for us today with strong west to northwest winds and a lot of current leftover from yesterday's wind. Water temperature on top was around 60 degrees. We had lake trout friendly temps down around 85' in some places. A lot of warm water was stacked up in the southern portions of the lake.
We started off in an area full of bait and a LOT of current. Nothing doing there. We made a move and then Scott started us off with a small (but decent) laker in around 120' to 130' of water. Logan wound up getting a better one, which we released (it was an old fish.) After that we had just two more fish - a nice one from Logan and a good one from Bob. The guys had some short hits and follows from both lake trout and other salmonids. Apart from a couple of bass boats pre-fishing for tournaments, very few people were out today. The wind really only allowed for reasonably comfortable fishing in a few areas, so that's what we did. I was certainly hoping for better fishing today and more fish to put it bluntly, but the winds were howling pretty good, so I'll take what we got. They guys did very good on their execution - we didn't lose any solid hookups. The water remains clear. The three fish I cleaned today had freshly eaten alewives in their stomachs.
