Cayuga Lake out of Myers Park 6/23 + 24(AM)

6/23:  Today I did a full-day trip broken up into two half-day trips.  Tyler and Matt had kids that they wanted to get out fishing today.  The guys are staying at their family's house on the lake in between Myers and Lake Ridge Point, so I picked up the first group of three just before 8 am, dropped them off at noon and then went out with the second group.

AM Trip:  I wasn't sure what fish numbers were like in the mid-lake areas, but they are good!  I wouldn't say I'm done going out of Long Point for the season, but Myers is definitely a good option.  Both trips were excellent!  The first wound up being a good double-digit day with Tyler's wife Gretchen having the hot hand.  Tyler also did well, as did their son Owen, who was out with us that morning.  Best fish was Gretchen's 29.5"er.  No rainbows or other bycatch this morning.  The lake was around 62 degrees on top and the clarity is excellent for this time of year.

PM Trip:  Matt and his son Chris were joined by Tyler's other son Eric for the second trip.  Chris got us started and then it was mostly Matt until the last few fish, including our best (another 29.5") that Eric caught.  Interestingly, the young men have been catching some rock bass off of their dock, along with plentiful numbers of small perch.  A lot of anglers were noticing a lack of rock bass in the lake over the past decade since the round goby invasion.  It's good to hear that this native specie is hanging in there!

We had some doubles on the day during both trips, which is always fun.

6/23 AM:  Today was a 1/2-day trip with Joe, Kevin and Kevin's 14-year-old grandson Spencer.  Kevin has wanted to get Spencer out for awhile.  Apparently he has had some bad luck on fishing trips.  Kevin made sure he ate his banana before we launched the boat.  All joking aside, the fish do not know who is on the other end of the line, so usually prolonged bad luck is user-error.  I worked with Spencer once we got underway and kept on him with his jigging "technique."  Long story short, he wound up having a good day and nabbing three nice lakers!  The guys wound up with a total of 7, with a decent number of fish missed/dropped.  Fishing wasn't as hot as yesterday (although it may have heated up in the afternoon once the cloud cover rolled in and the wind picked up,) but nonetheless, it was good.

Overall over the last two days we've had lake trout between 40' and 100' of water.  Forty feet is somewhat shallow for this time of year, but not uncommon, especially after prolonged winds move large, warmer plateaus of water up and down lake and to the east and west.  Lake Ontario anglers are very familiar with these phenomena.  No photos today.  The guys have caught plenty of fish in the past and Spencer didn't feel like holding any!
