Cayuga Lake out of Myers Park 7/28 AM

Water clarity (aka "transparency") is getting better and better on Cayuga Lake.  I didn't check it carefully, but I'm guessing we've got 6' of visibility as of today.  We have a few more hot days in the immediate forecast and then we are going to be looking at typical central NY August weather, with highs in the low-80s/upper 70s and lows in the low-to-mid 60s.  This weather should help with conditions on Owasco Lake too.  Average wind speeds typically go up in August and certainly September, and that should alleviate any visibility issues, especially on Owasco Lake.

I guided Josh and his daughter-in-law Cami today for a 1/2-day-trip starting just after 7 am.  Our fishing was very good - I'd call it a typical good August day (in July) on Cayuga Lake.  We had double-digit hookups and I believe 8 solid lakers landed including a couple of  28"ers.  Fish are all over the place, not necessarily large numbers, but they were everywhere we looked and we checked a bunch of areas.  We had some close calls with quite a few nice rainbows as well.  On Cami's last drop of the day she lost what had to be a big laker.  It basically kicked her butt!  I will be on Seneca and Owasco Lakes a fair amount going into August and September, but Cayuga is usually the most consistent fishing in August, with Owasco usually a close second, but time will tell.  Owasco Lake needs to clear up a bit before I expect any real consistency there.  Seneca Lake gets a little trickier in August and September with fish continually moving deeper and many moving more downlake.  We shall see!  Either way, Cayuga Lake is back on track for now.  Best depths today ran from around 80' to 110'.  Limetreuse was the best color by far for us.

Holding a slippery one for Cami!

Another 28" for Josh! Nice going!

Last hookup of the day, on the last drop of the jig! This one got the best of Cami!
