Hard to believe we are already in the second week of August! Days are getting noticeably shorter, that's for sure. Today I guided Henry and his 16 year-old son Hugh, who are both experienced anglers. Both are also avid fly-fishermen. I guided Henry once before, over 12 years ago back on 5/18/2013. We did a lake trout jigging trip out of Long Point. The morning thermal was blowing strong today and I did what I could to get the guys a bit out of the wind. We wound up having a terrific double-digit half-day trip with lakers going to 31" long and a 25" FAT brown that we kept, which weighed 8lbs, 8oz. That's a PIG! It was a beautiful fish too. We had one double today on lake trout which was fun. Fish ran from 70' to 110' deep today. Good colors included white/chart. tail, black (the brown came on a black with white head of all things) and alewife.
Tuesday remains open for this week. It will be a hot day, but the mornings have been perfect especially with the southerly thermals. Lake temps already hit their peak this year and appear to gradually be coming down, with our nightly lows having been in the upper-50s to low-60s. Cayuga Lake is fishing very well. I expect this bite to go well into September.
