Guided Tiernan and two of his daughters, 9 year old Isadore (nickname pronounced "Esa") and 8 year old Simone. Originally he was going to bring along a couple of older kids, but they backed out. He reassured me that his daughters could fish. He was right!
Fishing today was better than yesterday. If Monday was superb, Tuesday good and Wednesday slow, I'd call today fair to good. Everybody caught a trout within 60 to 90 minutes of our start. August fishing on Cayuga is generally very good. The fish are feeding heavily in anticipation of the spawn - lakers in October, salmon/browns in late-October/November and rainbows in March/April. This is the best, most consistent month for Cayuga Lake jigging. The weather is usually steady. The algae bloom(s) are done. April deep jigging can be ridiculously good at times, but the weather conditions vary a lot. As a guide, you can have a lot of weather-related cancellations in March and April; August, not so much.
High point of the day was Esa hooking a large rainbow that jumped well away from the boat! She did everything well but the fish got off. We did help her a little bit here and there with stabilizing the rod for her when she was hooked to lakers, but she hooked everything herself. Same rang true with her sister Simone, who had a lot of hits to start. Tiernan caught the most fish. He also had a big brown follow in his jig in one area. Great day and we all had a lot of FUN!
