Guided Henry and his friend Tiewie (a.k.a. Dee) for a 1/2-day trip out of Myers Park. These guys are avid fishermen who knew of me from my Cornell classes that I taught from around 2003 up to the pandemic in 2020. I mentioned in a prior post that Cayuga Lake hadn't quite been fishing up to August standards thus far this month, well today that all changed. Fishing is back up to "par" for August action on my home lake. I spent a little bit of time showing the guys the depths of off our new state park north of Taughannock, then we were off to fish. We tried a few drops on the west shore and in short order Henry had what was probably a rainbow trout nab his jig on the way down. It didn't stay buttoned for long. We moved and found good numbers of active lake trout in some typical August areas. The guys had some very good action primarily on Money Minnows, but also to some extent on a chartreuse silk Lunker City 3.75" Shaker.
We had some wild lakers today along with the usual hatchery fish. Our best couple of fish ran over 28" long. Dee had one nice 22" rainbow. All fish were released today. The guys wanted to try for some other species so I tried one area with them for browns. We wound up catching a couple more lakers. It was a double-digit day with a few fish dropped, but not many. The guys did a great job with everything.
