Guided Steve and his wife Susan for a half-day trip starting just after 7:30 am. The mild cold front that came through over the past day or two appeared to have slowed the action down a bit in the morning. Susan picked up a 24" laker on her second drop with her jig, which was great. However after that, it was "slim pickins" for a couple of hours. I was hoping to get them into some non-lakers, but it didn't work out. The calm conditions, clear water (the algae is gone) and high sun made for some tentative fish.
We made a run as the wind began coming up out of the northwest and the cloud cover started forming. The bite improved a bit, but never really caught fire. A few more lakers were caught, as was Steve's 17" landlocked salmon (which was a good sign) and everything was topped by Susan's gorgeous 26" rainbow! We let everything go today with the exception of Steve's first laker which took a jig about as deep as is possible! What a mess! Thankfully my washdown system works well. I ate a Seneca Lake laketrout last week; this week I'll eat a Cayuga fish. I think the Seneca ones taste a bit more pure/clean, but both make for good tablefare. Plenty of bait was around. Surface temps were at 72/73 degrees. Boat traffic was light. We hit fish from 80' out to 110'. Limetreuse, white with chartreuse tail and Alewife all worked for us today.
