Cayuga Lake out of Myers Park 8/28 AM

People often ask me when the best lake trout fishing is in the Finger Lakes.  That answer varies a lot!  The last few years, it's been Cayuga Lake in October going into November for us, with hot post-spawn action.  In the 2010s and early-2020s, a lot of great fishing was had in April and early-May with the deep bite.  It all varies by the year and the conditions, along with other factors (like the trout population.)  This year, the late-August fishing had proven to be very good to excellent indeed!

Guided a tight 1/2-day trip today with Tim and his son Paul, along with Paul's friend Reid.  Today was a great day.  Paul started us off with a couple of 29" fish.  Within a 1/2 hour, everyone had landed multiple fish.  The hot bite continued for another hour or so then slowed down, but never quit.  Best fish of the day was Reid's hard fighting wild 32" beast!  The guys all did a great job with the technique.  A few fish were dropped as well.  Reid's fish came on black - I wish Lunker City would produce black 3.75" Shakers again, but it doesn't look like they will, although a limited run of them is always possible.  No rainbows today although the guys may have hooked one or two.  The wind kicked up a bit towards the end of our trip.  Tim needed to be off the water by noon, so we finished up at 11:45 am.

Tomorrow remains open as does Monday.  My open dates are posted under "Reports."  Just click on that and scroll down to "Upcoming Openings" or availability and you'll find them.

Paul getting us started today with a 29"er

Another big one for Paul!

Reid's 32" - One of, if not the best laker I've had onboard this year.
