Fishing remains top-notch on Cayuga Lake! The past three days I've been out have been terrific, with some big fish, rainbows, uncrowded water and comfortable weather and wind conditions. You can't ask for more than that - well, I guess you can, but good luck in getting it! Guided Brian, his brother Ronnie and father Shui (pronounced "Shuh-way") for a 1/2-day trip getting underway at 7:30 am. I knew where I wanted us to start, but we had some crazy currents and water temps. Shui started us off with a 25" trout, but we didn't see/feel much. I made a run and we slowly started hitting paydirt. We hooked fish in water as deep as 120' today. Brian nabbed a nice rainbow and the guys all caught some great lakers. Ronnie hooked a very hard fighting strong fish, which took some time to land - it measured 33" long! What a beauty! Next thing I know, Brian and Shui are doubled-up! I took quick care of Shui's 20" fish, but Brian's took some time. It was a 32"er that was probably heavier than Ronnie's 33"! What a slob!
It wound up being a good double-digit day with a couple dinks and a couple monsters and plenty of fish in-between. We had a lot of wild fish today which was interesting to see. All fish were released. Tomorrow (August 31st) remains open. In-Fishermen Magazine's Angler Award Contest showed that a disproportionate number of trophy fish are caught within three days of the full and new moon. Today provided more evidence to back that theory!
