Guided Don and his friend Rick for a 1/2-day trip getting underway at 7:45 am.
I made a good run to start the day. Our bite was slow to start despite plenty of fish on the fishfinder screen. The guys know fishing and kept dropping away with the jigs. Eventually we started getting some hits and follows. The rainbows were really the big story today - we had a LOT of encounters with rainbow trout. Don nabbed a couple of nice ones in the low-to-mid-20s inch range. Rick lost a beauty that jumped around 3' or further out of the water! Lots of follows and hits were had - many of which were rainbows. Rick nabbed a beautiful 32" laker along with a more usual-sized 27"er. Don landed a smaller laker. The guys both dropped quite a few fish - some that I'm sure were silvers.
We had air temperatures last night down into the upper-30s. For what it's worth, some of the trees along the lake are starting to show some nice colors. The water level is good on Cayuga Lake although there are plenty of green particulates in the upper portions of the water column. I do not think we're going to see more algae with the cooler air temperatures and lack of rain, but on occasion I have seen particulates. Some lakes bloom later in the season. Word is that Owasco Lake has some low visibility as of this writing. Weedmats were pretty much gone, which is good news for trollers.
My availability remains very good going into the rest of the season! The weather was PERFECT today - cool and crisp! Enjoy the fall weather! Winter is coming....
