Guided Steve, Brad and Peter for a 1/2-day trip getting underway just before 8 am. Only one other trailer was parked in the boat launch area at Myers. We never saw another boat on the lake today! We had cloudy conditions to start with some low hanging fog. It didn't take long before the guys started getting some bites. In relatively short order Brad hooked a very, very heavy fish! He didn't say anything when he hooked it, so I didn't notice (I was working on some tackle) but after a few seconds Brad's line just broke right in the middle of the leader. Pete wound up landing the first laker which he kept. We had a few more come on board with the best fish being Brad's 32"er!
Steve landed two terrific rainbows on the day - both wild; a male and a female (in different parts of the lake.) The first one hit off bottom in 70' of water and was eating round gobies! The second one came out of 140' of water and fought wildly. We were lucky to get it in! A couple other lakers were caught and we had two get off right before I could slip the net under them. It was a very solid day with great fishing and fair "catching." Brad's big laker appeared to be post-spawn. We kept Pete's first laker and it was a male and not ready to spawn. Heavy spawning will commence next week and continue from around now until the third week in October. Bite windows can be tougher and shorter when around spawning fish. We get away from the spawners this time of year.
I just ordered my new Fish-Hawk TD probe from Fish Hawk electronics. They were due out nearly two years ago but the engineers kept tweaking the design. They're finally in and I can't wait to try mine out.
Thursday looks to be a gorgeous day and is still open for trips as is this weekend. I have plenty of open dates over the next three weeks. The last week in October features a few openings.
