Guided Dave and his wife Karen for a full-day trip starting just after 7:30 am. It may be Labor Day weekend, but it feels much later than that - the vibe is like Columbus Day and I'm not sure why. Yes, it's a late Labor Day - it can't get later than on the 7th, but it's also been cool. Leaves are showing a pre-fall coloration. Whatever it is, the light boat traffic and relatively few people at the park for such a big holiday weekend certainly added to my sentiment.
Bite windows appear to be getting shorter. We had some excellent screens on my depthfinder during the first few hours of the trip and both Dave and Karen did well, landing around a half-dozen fish to start. A lot of fish did seem neutral today. I moved us around a lot and kept us on fish and only a couple more made it to the net. No rainbows today although I'm sure I was marking a few and some appeared to be chasing half-heartedly. The wind really amped up around 2:30 pm - blowing over 20 mph out of the north and most boaters appeared to be getting off of the lake. We called it an early day. It was a decent day, but fall is certainly in the air. I keep hearing about a strong El Nino, but I have a hunch that we are going to have yet another strong winter. Just a hunch...
