Guided Lisa and Alex today for a 1/2-day trip starting at 7:30 am. Winds were forecasted to crank up out of the northwest to over 20 mph (and I've seen that movie before and know how it ends...) so I decided that it was better to meet them there, than do a boat pick-up from Myers, where I'd have to run across the lake. Lisa was out with me for two half-day trips back in June of 2006! That's quite some time ago. I looked up my old report for that trip and I'd actually started our day at 5:20 AM! I didn't ever remember starting lake trout trips that early, but I'm sure I had a reason for it back then...
The cold front put a damper on the bite today. The fish were definitely in a negative mood this morning. We persevered and Lisa hooked up with a nice lake trout around 90 minutes into our trip. We had a bit of a bite window then, but it wasn't intense and didn't stay "open" for long. Alex caught his first lake trout. Lisa then nabbed a chunky rainbow around 25"+. Lisa's hot hand continued with another good lake trout for her. The winds did kick up and we got off of the lake. So it was a tougher day today, but that's easily explained with the front and heavy cloud cover. Overall Cayuga Lake is in excellent shape and is fishing very well.
Route 89 is finally being repaved. It's been way overdue, but I'm grateful - it was getting very rough! Cayuga Lake's water level is high. Surface temp was 69 degrees today.
