Got out here on my own for around 3 1/2 hours.  Fishing continues to improve here but lampreys remain a big factor.  I had a very solid day of fly fishing today.  As I’ve mentioned before, March has tended to be the best month to target salmon in the Finger Lakes.  They are still grouped up, they start feeding more likely due to the photoperiods getting longer and the lack of rain tends to keep them concentrated.   Fish are still averaging around 17″ to 18″ but some nicer ones are starting to show up.  Lake levels remain good – they are rarely ever a factor here since the NY Canal Authority (or whomever maintains the lake levels) do not fluctuate it as much as Cayuga.

I hope to get on Cayuga Lake soon to see what is happening there.  Salmon action should be good on all the lakes that have good populations of them – namely Cayuga, Seneca and Skaneateles, although Skaneateles is not launchable out of Mandana, so unless you belong to the Yacht Club we’ll have to wait for the State Launch to open.

My schedule for March and onwards is wide open.

I finally upgraded from my flip-phone to the latest Samsung Galaxy.  The camera is fantastic, so I won’t have to bother any clients to send me trip photos.  I will take the pics myself!
