Cayuga Lake 7/29 AM out of Myers Park
Guided Bob and his grandson Evan today for a 1/2-day-trip starting just after 6:30 am. Bob and his wife were out with me late last June when they did pretty well before a heavy downpour hammered us. Today we had cloudy conditions and a morning thermal (thermally generated winds that are localized due to warm air mixing with cold air around the lake and its valleys,) which gave way to calmer conditions and sun. We had a decent morning, but the bite definitely picked up as the winds died and sun came out later in the morning.
Today was Evan’s day. Bob’s a fine angler, but he took it easy today so that Evan would really have a great day, and his strategy worked. We wound up with 9 nice trout today. Bob landed a couple, including a 32″ slob, but Evan caught all the rest. Best colors were Limetreuse, White and Black. We had fish on a bunch of different colors today. A Yum Money Minnow in white worked very well. Fish were generally deep today with our best action coming from 80′ to 130′. Bob’s 32″er came from the 120′ to 130′ range. Tons of bait was around this morning. Only a few anglers were out on the water today. Water fleas seem fairly non-existent. Weedmats are also scarce, so it’s a great time for the trollers to get into some mixed-bag fishing.
Evan with a nice fish!
