Cayuga Lake out of Long Point 6/1 AM
Had a fun 1/2 day trip starting around 7:30 am with Robert. He has a place on Cayuga Lake and has had some good jigging action but was looking to get more consistent with it. He knows what he needs to do now. He landed a couple nice fish. We went over a good perch technique and he caught a few perch, a goby, a solid smallmouth and a 30″ laker that nailed some tiny plastics set up for perch! He also lost what was probably a nice trout of some kind. With warmer water in close gobies are moving back in. Some lakers are taking advantage of the goby bounty by working the shallows despite slightly warmer than “preferred” laker temps. Of course a big laker may be able to handle slightly warmer water if it prefers to eat protein rich gobies! The forecast storms and rain stayed away and we enjoyed a nice relaxing summer kind of day on the water. The amount of baitfish on Cayuga Lake remains staggering.
Lake Ontario has risen to new recent highs. Most launches are closed and/or under water! That may be part of the reason I’ve seen a lot more boats than usual on Cayuga Lake recently.
A handful of dates remain open for June. I usually guide a set amount of trips. Once I have a few more bookings I will close the month off.
