Cayuga Lake out of Myers Park 7/4

Reports

I’ll be launching out of both Myers and Long Point for the remainder of the season depending on the winds and water conditions.  Today was my first trip out of Myers in quite a while.  I had my back up Crestliner out today while I wait for my trailer repairs next week. I met Steven, Bob and Blake at the launch at around 6:20 am and we were underway shortly thereafter.

The AM bite was very good for lakers and everyone caught fish. Fishing slowed but never quite died as the day went on. Just as things were heating up temperature-wise, a nice south breeze picked up from down the lake, so we remained comfortable on the lake despite the air temperatures hovering in the upper 80s.  We worked a lot of areas from AES up to past Sheldrake. We hooked fish everywhere.  Best one was a 29″er that “Big Fish Bob” got.  A dozen were landed on the day and another half dozen or more dropped.

It was a real treat talking to Steven, who was a friend of Buck Perry, the father of modern structure fishing.  When you hear anglers referring to cover, structure, migration routes and breaklines, it all goes back to Buck.

The wait at the boat launch to pull out wasn’t bad.  Nice hot day at the park and a great day for a picnic or BBQ.  The weekend remains open for trips as does Monday.  Best fishing today was 65′ to 85′.  Lots of colors produced.
