Cayuga Lake out of Myers Park 8/19 AM

Reports

Guided Bernard along with his friends Brandon and George for a 1/2 day today getting underway just after 7:30 am.  The guys have a long trek to get over here, hence the later starting time.  I certainly was concerned about the cold front that blew through on Thursday night.  Usually they don’t bother the August fishing too much, but high winds can limit our fishing areas and sometimes the bite gets tough.  We had a calm lake when we launched, but within 10 minutes of motoring the winds cranked up out of the west northwest.  We settled on a routine of zigging and zagging along the shoreline, picking up a fish here and there.  Fortunately the big lakers cooperated and the guys landed a bunch of nice fish.  As the winds got even stronger and the lake rougher, we moved behind a protected area and nabbed a couple more fish including Brandon’s terrific 27″ wild rainbow!  This fish was his first on a relatively new Shimano Trevala jigging rod and Avet reel.  Those outfits are sweet!  If (actually WHEN) the jigging ever takes off on Lake Ontario for Kings, mark my words – in 10 years or whenever guys finally start jigging in earnest up there, those will be the outfits people will use!

It was a great morning and when we got off of the lake around 12:15 pm, there wasn’t a single trailer in the parking lot at Myers.  Only a few sailboats and the usual gaggle of wind-sport enthusiasts were out.

Bernard on!
