Cayuga Lake out of Union Springs 8/28
Guided the Hermans in the AM starting around 7:15 for bass. Bass action was slow for us. The Hermans had fun with some steady action on pickerel up to around 21″. Areas we’d found bass in early in the week (or more accurately last week) were devoid of bass and full of aggressive but thin pickerel. We tried a few different areas and Eleonore and John each landed legal largemouths. John lost what was likely a very solid bass in one area. The morning really went by quickly.
After the trip I did some bass fishing. I am still dialing in various rod/reel combos and figuring out what I like. I landed 3 bass in around two hours, though 2 of them were shorts. I also nabbed a couple pickerel. The lake has not been fishing as well for bass as it had in prior years. I feel the fish are out there but the weedgrowth has changed a bit. As usual there’s also been tremendous tournament pressure, which doesn’t help anything for the casual bass angler. Water temp was 73 on top.
