Lake Ontario out of Oswego 5/30
Met my buddy Terry at Wright’s Landing at Oswego around 6:45 am. We both brought gear for jigging lakers/salmon, casting for browns and casting for bass. The lake level as most of you know is about 3′ high! The docks at Wrights are walkable without getting wet. Weather was a big issue today and unfortunately we had to cut our trip short due to heavy rain/thunderstorms that hit us around 2 pm.
We fished around the harbor, the shoreline and out from the harbor into the deeps. The only real action we had was that Terry had a big (double-digit) brown follow in his lure up to the boat near the harbor. This year there’s a ton of bait around Oswego, which was good to see. Plenty of fish were also around it and on bottom in places but we couldn’t get them to move for our jigs.
Another 3 to 4 boats launched out of Wrights and there was a charter or two out. All of them were trolling the shoreline clearly targeting brown trout. Surface temps in the harbor hit 62. Most of the lake was around 49 to 52 on top. The lake level isn’t going down any time soon – it poured today.
