Canandaigua Lake 4/17

Reports

Guided Randy and his friend John for a full day starting just after 9 am.  For most of the day, we were the only ones out on the lake fishing.  We had periods of rain for much of the day along with some showers.  The sun poked out during the last 1/2 hour of our trip.  The water level is up, and there’s some light debris floating around, but overall the lake was in good condition.  Surface temps were at 43/44 degrees.

We had decent “fishing” today, but slow catching.  A lot of bites were had and a fair number of fish were hooked in nearly every area we tried.  The fish showed some signs of being tentative.  I’ve seen this before on Canandaigua Lake – fish chasing jigs for 100′ and not hitting them!  Anyways, I showed the guys as many jigging tips and tricks as I could recall.  By the end of the day, we were pretty close to having the jigging dialed in technically, even though the fish were still teasing us with short hook-ups.

We found fish between 50′ and probably 150′ FOW.  Four lake trout were landed on the day – one around 20″ and the rest around 25″ to 26″.  The guys do a lot of fishing and it was nice hearing about the action on Canadice, Hemlock and other area water bodies.  John does a lot of Lake Ontario fishing as well and has been a mate for one of the top captains in the western portion of the lake.

This Sunday, April 21st remains open for trips, as does next Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, along with Saturday the 28th.  The weather is finally starting to be more spring-like, in the best sense.
