Cayuga Lake 5/12 PM

Reports

Got out here on my own for the afternoon.  I am working on some open water lake trout fly-fishing techniques.  I have a few clients who have shown some interest in it.  So far, it’s been working pretty well at Keuka Lake from February through April over the past couple of years.  On Cayuga Lake today, I gave it around 4 hours plus and finally wound up hooking a large laker out in around 25′ of water.  I was hoping to get a good action shot for this website but was having trouble keeping the pressure on the fish while positioning my phone and yep, it got off!  Ouch!  I have some areas that should be fantastic once the fish set up in them.  Stay tuned!

I spent an hour or so checking out areas up north near Union Springs just surveying the area.  I tried a couple pickerel areas very quickly without any luck.  A buddy of mine caught a small northern pike up here a few days back.  That’s a good sign.  Hopefully the pike are having some successful spawns.
