Cayuga Lake 9/4 + Owasco Lake 9/5

Reports

Guided back to back 1/2 day trips on Cayuga Lake Friday then a morning trip on Owasco Lake today.  Here’s the breakdown:

9/4 AM:  Met Greg at Myers at 7 am and we were underway by 7:10.  We worked a bunch of different areas and had a fair bite.  He wound up landing a few lakers.  He had follows from at least one solid brown and a nice rainbow but they didn’t grab.

9/4 PM:  Swung over to Taughannock and picked up Liz and Craig.  We had to reschedule this trip a few times due to weather and other concerns but we finally were able to coordinate something. On my way over from Myers Park the lake kicked up some one to two foot waves.  They hadn’t done any vertical fishing with me before so I moved them to a calm area.  We had a slow go for the first couple hours.  Craig managed to land a nice laker that we released and he lost another.  Eventually Liz lost one too.

After working this calmer area for a while, I decided to head us into the chop and we had some very solid fishing for the last part of the trip.  Another 5 nice fish were landed.   We kept a couple and I gave Liz a filleting demonstration.  Fun day and we were all glad the fish cooperated.

9/5 Owasco Lake out of Emerson Park:  Today was a late booking from Greg.  We looked at the wind forecast and it appeared to be a repeat of yesterday.  We’d been talking about hitting Owasco a bit in September, so we decided to go ahead and give it a shot.  We had a strong thermal in the morning out of the south.  Nothing was happening for us.  We kept at it and eventually the lakers cooperated.  Greg caught and released around a half dozen fish – mostly 22″ to 24″ers but he did land a 29″ beauty.  This lake abounds with bait and fishing here had been good and should only get better this fall.
